Hyssop is a flowering herb related to the mint family. It has culinary as well as medicinal applications used as far back as in Biblical times. Hyssop contains high levels of polyphenols for good antioxidant activity, as well as having antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiviral properties and therefore beneficial in treating mild skin irritations.
Comfrey is a small shrub growing about 1.5m tall and has been used for thousands of years to treat such ailments as sprains, bruises, burns and inflammation. The roots contain allantoin which boosts the growth of new skin cells, moisturises and soothes skin.
Dunaliella salina is a green alga capable of producing high concentrations of carotenoids, colouring the cells a bright orange or red, and lives in highly saline environments, such as salt lakes and salt evaporation ponds. It is one of the most common microalgae that is used as human food with a wide range of nutrients and is a powerful antioxidant to protect against free radical damage, more especially known for its rich beta-carotene content. The anti-inflammatory properties are also beneficial and
has been used extensively in cosmetics and personal care products for many years.
Cloves are the aromatic flower buds of a tree native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia. Used widely as a spice addition to many foods and beverages, compounds found in cloves have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties. As well as digestive benefits it also provides pain relief when applied topically due to the presence of eugenol.
